Warrenpoint sees huge success at the Ulster Fleadh

At the end of July, over 3,000 competitors, ranging in age from under 7 to over 70, from all the 9 counties of Ulster, met in Dromore, Co. Tyrone, to participate in the Ulster Fleadh, Fleadh Uladh, 2024.

Fleadh Uladh is one of the biggest gatherings of traditional Irish musicians, singers, dancers, arts and culture in this part of the island and massive crowds were present in Dromore all week to participate, celebrate, compete and enjoy all that Fleadh Uladh had to offer.

With podium positions achieved at Fleadh an Duin in Castlewellan a few weeks ago, Rinn Mhic Giolla Rua, Warrenpoint, were extremely well represented with a large number of our young musicians, singers, dancers and language practitioners qualifying to display their talents against the best that Ulster had to offer in this annual gathering.

It is an incredible achievement to represent your family, your parish and your  branch at this level, and our young musicians, singers. dancers and cultural representatives were absolutely outstanding.

What an incredible array of talent we witnessed on display last weekend.

Each and every year the standard of competition is higher and higher, and each and every year our young people respond to the challenge and produce amazing performances.

This year this group of young people from Rinn Mhic Giolla Rua, left Dromore with almost 100 Ulster medals.......surpassing our wildest dreams.

What an amazing achievement.......

Then, to have two of our members, Shea and Thomas Magee, to be recorded for Fleadh2024, another fantastic achievement!

Now as you head off to Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Wexford this weekend, everyone in the Branch wishes you safe travels and the very best of luck.

To compete in an All Ireland is a very special achievement  and one that is afforded to so very, very few.

We are all so proud of the hard work, commitment and diligence it has taken to get these musicians to this point. We are in no doubt that behind every medal won is a teacher, a parent, a family, a support network and our own Comhaltas community, constantly supporting and constantly cheering our musicians and dancers on
