About Us
Founded in 1975, Craobh Rinn Mhic Giolla Rua CCÉ is situated in at the head of Carlingford Lough in Warrenpoint, Co. Down.
The Branch draws its membership not only from the town of Warrenpoint but also from the near-by city of Newry, the village of Rostrevor and the rural hinterland of Burren, Hilltown, Mayobridge and Killowen.
Our Branch prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere and its strong family focus, indeed the children and grandchildren of our founding members continue to pass on our tradition and culture to the next generation.
Our experienced, committed tutors provide lessons to all ages and abilities at our weekly classes held during term time in St. Marks High School, Warrenpoint.
Whilst the overiding ethos of the Branch is to encourage participation in music song, dance and our native language for personal enjoyment, we also provide opportunities, for those who wish, to participate in Grupai Cheoil and Ceili Bands for participation in local Feiseanna as well as competing in County, Provincial and National competitions.
Supported by an enthusiastic group of parents and assisted by a recently formed Youth Committee, the Branch is managed by a dedicated, hardworking, very approachable Committee, whose mission is to build on the solid foundations laid by previous generations to ensure that our unique cultural heritage continues to grow and flourish.
Warrenpoint Comhaltas has had the honour of taking part in many festivals and initiatives, both nationally and internationally. In recent years, our branch has had the privilege of travelling to North Carolina (USA), St Petersburg (Russia) and on the Gig Rig at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Drogheda.
